Backstory

Gena spent twelve years as a corporate compliance auditor, climbing Blackwood's middle management ranks before a crisis of conscience led her to document irregularities in the sub-basement project—irregularities that were quickly buried by executive oversight. Silenced and sidelined to a dead-end position in HR, she became obsessed with uncovering what Blackwood was really hiding. Her obsession cost her a marriage and most of her friendships, but it also made her dangerously knowledgeable about the building's layout, security protocols, and the names of people who knew too much. When the distress signal went out, Gena was still in the building—working late as always, chasing ghosts in archived emails. Now she's one of the few survivors who understands that this isn't an accident; it's the culmination of something Blackwood deliberately invited.
