Backstory

Helen spent twenty years cataloging forbidden manuscripts in the Grand Library of Keth before the institution burned under mysterious circumstances—circumstances she suspects were no accident. She survived by fleeing into the Scorched Expanse with a single leather case of salvaged texts, determined to understand what she'd been forbidden to study. Her research led her to fragments of the Keepers' rituals and, worse, to proof that Khar-Moth's binding was already failing decades ago. Wracked by guilt and driven by the possibility of redemption, she has spent the last five years tracking the remaining Keepers, hoping to piece together the broken seal before the desert consumes everything. Her mind is sharp but fraying—the weight of forbidden knowledge and the creeping wrongness of the land have left her perpetually on the edge of certainty and madness.
