Backstory

Kyla was born in the Undercroft, the daughter of a locksmith and a black-market fence. She learned to move through shadows before she learned to walk, picking locks and lifting purses to survive Karthel's lower depths. When Alachar's curse descended, her parents were conscripted into his labor gangs—she never saw them again. Now twenty-three, Kyla has become the Streetborn's most skilled infiltrator, using her intimate knowledge of the city's hidden passages and criminal networks to scout targets and steal supplies for the resistance. She harbors a quiet rage beneath her quick wit, and a desperate hope that toppling Alachar might let her reclaim what was stolen from her.
