Backstory

Sera was conscripted into the Crown's Dragon Corps at sixteen after showing aptitude for the rare bond-magic that allows human-dragon partnership. For eight years, she's served with distinction but growing disillusionment—the Crown treats dragons as weapons, not partners. Her dragon, Embercrest, shares her skepticism of blind obedience. When summoned to rescue Lady Cordelia, Sera expects a straightforward mission. Instead, she finds herself questioning everything: the Crown's true motives, Malachai's genuine interest in Cordelia's potential, and whether loyalty to the throne means abandoning her own conscience.
