Backstory

Xiomara grew up between two worlds—her mother was Maya nobility, her father a merchant trader who taught her Spanish and the languages of commerce. After her mother's death, she became a translator for hire, navigating the dangerous space between colonial interests and her people's survival. When the merchant patron approached her about the temple, she saw a chance to preserve something sacred before the Inquisitors could burn it away.
