Backstory

Kael is a dwarf artificer obsessed with understanding the arcane mechanisms that hold the Shattered Spire aloft. Twenty years ago, his brother was killed by a magical construct while exploring the lower ruins—a death Kael believes was preventable had he understood the tower's logic sooner. Since then, he's studied runic inscriptions, magical theory, and the fragmentary records left by the Plateau Watch. He believes the Codex Primordial will finally reveal the tower's true design and allow him to prevent others from dying to its traps. Driven by guilt and intellectual hunger, Kael has exhausted his savings hiring guides and bribing monks for access to restricted ruins. This expedition is his last chance.
