Backstory

Before the Silence, Kincaid was a systems engineer for a defense contractor—the kind of job that paid well but left him morally ambiguous. When the pulse hit, he was consulting at a data center outside the city. He survived the initial chaos by understanding infrastructure: he knew which buildings had backup power, which routes stayed clear, how to read the dead city like a technical schematic. For three years, he's drifted between settlements, trading knowledge for security, never fully trusting any faction. His intelligence is his only real asset now, and he's learned to use it carefully. He's begun to suspect the pulse wasn't random—his old employer had contingency protocols for exactly this scenario—but he's kept that suspicion close. Lately, he's been drawn to the Archive, searching old records, trying to understand what really happened. Survival is one thing. Understanding why the world ended is another.
