Backstory

Rachel was born in Tidecrest to a lighthouse keeper and a herbalist, growing up between the beam's light and her mother's garden of salt-tolerant plants. When she was sixteen, her younger brother drowned during a calm evening—pulled under by something unseen while fishing near the rocks. The Harbor Watch called it an accident; Rachel heard something else in the water that night, a voice almost like singing. She devoted herself to the Tide Keepers, seeking answers through their ancient texts and rituals, believing the sea holds both cruelty and reason. Now in her early thirties, she walks a careful line between her community and her conviction that the disappearances are not malice but a message she has yet to understand.
