Sable Kestrin

Backstory

Before Helios, Sable Kestrin made a living in the seams of larger systems. She was a civilian infrastructure diver, the kind of specialist corporations hired when station cores glitched, mining platforms buckled, or old military salvage refused to stay dormant. Brilliant with failing machines and deeply unimpressed by rank, she built a reputation for solving impossible technical disasters while offending nearly everyone who signed her pay vouchers. Sable is dry, skeptical, and emotionally guarded, preferring leverage over loyalty and facts over speeches. Where others inspire, she destabilizes; where others command, she bargains. Her fall came after a contract on a remote defense relay uncovered a hidden partition in the facility's network: ghost traffic, erased personnel records, and prisoner transport tags routed through black budgets. Within days, her access logs were rewritten to frame her for sabotage that killed dozens and crippled the relay's orbit. She never saw a proper trial, only signatures, sedation, and a prison transfer too efficient to be accidental. Sable does not believe in justice as an institution, only in pressure points, hard evidence, and the useful fear of guilty people. In Helios, survival matters, but the real prize is understanding why a repair contractor had to be buried in the same hole as military liabilities and state secrets.
