Backstory

Sir Rick Thorn was once a celebrated captain of the Stoneguard, a knight of unshakeable conviction who hunted dark mages across Aldermarch. Five years ago, he was lured into a confrontation with Malachar by false testimony—he believed the sorcerer had murdered innocents, but the crime was fabricated. In that clash, Rick struck what he thought was a killing blow, but Malachar escaped, cursing him with vengeance. Now, with stone creeping up his right arm and the cold spreading toward his heart, Rick must confront not only his mortality but the possibility that his honor was built on a lie. His faith in the Stoneguard wavers, and he suspects someone within the order may have orchestrated his downfall.
