The Inheritance
A wealthy industrialist lies dead in a locked study—and his killer is still in the house.
About this adventure
Lord Ashford, patron of the arts and master of Ravencrest Manor, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances—officially a heart attack, but whispers suggest something far darker. Trapped by winter weather on the Yorkshire moors, a circle of suspects remains confined within the estate's Gothic walls: family, rivals, lovers, and servants, each with motive and secrets to hide. The will is set to be read in three days, and whoever murdered the old man intends to benefit from it. Play as a freelance journalist hunting for the story of a lifetime, or a private investigator hired to uncover truths the constabulary cannot.
Prologue
Ravencrest Manor stands silent beneath a bruised winter sky, its Victorian towers and mullioned windows dark against the gathering dusk. The estate sprawls across the Yorkshire moors like a sleeping beast, isolated by snow and wind, its grand halls and shadowed corridors now a gilded cage for those trapped within. Lord Ashford is dead. Found in his locked study on the morning after the winter gala, the elderly industrialist and arts patron lay slumped in his leather chair, his face frozen in an expression of surprise or agony—the physician's report remains deliberately vague. The official diagnosis: a heart attack, sudden and fatal. But several guests witnessed strange movements in the corridors that night. A maid discovered a peculiar glass on the study's side table, hastily hidden. The constabulary, well-meaning but provincial, has ruled it natural causes and closed the matter. Yet someone in this house administered poison disguised as providence. And that someone stands to inherit a fortune. Three days remain before the will is read and the killer slips away into society, their crime buried with Lord Ashford. The truth must be uncovered within these walls, pieced together from contradictory testimonies, hidden relationships, and secrets that run far deeper than a single death. The investigation has begun—and failure means justice dies with the old man in his study.
