Backstory

Yara is one of the Arca Mundi's lead scientists, recruited by Synth-Kira BioSystems specifically to study Proxima's exoplanets for signs of microbial life — a discovery she has quietly dreamed of her entire career. She was the first person to isolate a Vreth strand under a microscope and the first to understand what it does to a nervous system, knowledge that has made her both invaluable and a target. She is driven by scientific truth above all else, but her growing feelings for the ship's security chief are beginning to complicate her ruthless pragmatism.
