Sable Orvaine

Backstory

A senior cartographer of the Surveyor's Compact, Sable has spent fifteen years mapping contested borders across three continents and has a reputation for producing maps that end wars — and occasionally start them. She was specifically requested for this assignment by the Compact's leadership because she is the only active surveyor who has read the fragmentary Drevari geological surveys in the Compact's archive, though she didn't understand their significance at the time. She is driven by a genuine belief in the Compact's mission of neutral documentation, but she is also hiding a personal secret: she is the illegitimate daughter of a Valdric minor lord, which means she has more at stake in the western empire's fate than her neutral credentials suggest.
