Backstory

A Surath-trained geomantic scholar — a practitioner of the art of reading the earth's magical resonances — who attached themselves to the Compact survey team under the guise of being a geological consultant. In truth, they were sent by a minor Surath House to covertly assess whether the subsidence has supernatural origins, and to acquire any Drevari artifacts or texts that might be found. They have exceeded their brief: they have already detected Orreth-Vaun's presence through geomantic sensing and are now torn between their duty to their patron House, their genuine terror of what they've found, and a growing conviction that this discovery belongs to the world rather than to any one empire. Their geomantic abilities are genuine and significant, but using them openly would blow their cover.
