About this adventure

The ancient covenant is broken. For three centuries, the ice dragon Vorthax stood sentinel over the northern passes, a living glacier guarding the realm from worse things than winter. Now the dragon lies bound in iron-forged chains beneath the Spire of Ash, its frost-breath harvested to fuel a war of conquest. The mage-king Malachar has turned the dragon's own power against the kingdom, his armies marching south on roads paved with frozen corpses. You are among the few who remember the old stories—not the songs of dragon-slaying, but the older tales of dragon-pact, of oaths sworn between claw and crown. The kingdom's last hope lies not in defeating the dragon, but in setting it free. The path to the Spire winds through blighted forests, across battlefields where the dead do not stay buried, and into the heart of a tyranny built on stolen frost. Along this road, bonds will form in fire and ice—some of comradeship, some of something deeper, tested by sacrifice and the long silence of winter nights. This is a story of broken chains and mended trust, of enemies who become necessary allies, and of love kindled in the coldest places. The dragon waits. The armies gather. And somewhere between freedom and ruin, hearts will choose their own allegiances.

Prologue

The cold has teeth this year. It gnaws through shutters, turns wine to slush in its cup, kills the old in their beds—not gently, but with the patience of something that has nowhere else to be. You have seen the refugees stumbling south, frostbitten, speaking of armies that do not bleed and a sky that snows ash. They speak too of a light in the northern mountains. Blue-white, pulsing like a heartbeat in iron. The old know what it means. The young will learn. Winter is no longer a season. It is a weapon now. And someone must walk into it, find the source, and break what cannot be broken.
