What the Dark Remembers
Descend into a cursed mine to find the missing — and seal what they unleashed.
About this adventure
Three days ago, the Ashvein Silver Mine fell silent. Carts stopped rolling. Shift bells went unanswered. When the foreman sent a boy down to check, the boy came back alone, white-faced, and hasn't spoken since. The miners are gone — all nineteen of them — and something from the tunnels below has begun to make noise at night. Beneath the working mine lies something far older: a network of hand-carved passages that predate the town itself, sealed off for reasons no one living can explain. Whatever the miners broke through into, it wasn't empty. The walls of the lower passages are said to be etched with warnings in a script no one recognizes, and the foreman swears the air coming up from below smells like a grave. The town of Cralwick has no army and no wizard. What it has is a temple willing to spend its last silver on a cleric, a mining guild contact who knows an ex-miner willing to go back underground, and a locked strong-room in the mine office that someone needs to get into. Together, these three unlikely allies must descend into the dark, piece together what happened to the missing workers, and find a way to shut the door that was never meant to be opened. This is a dungeon crawl built on dread, claustrophobia, and hard choices. The deeper the party goes, the less the rules of the living world seem to apply.
Prologue
The mine has been quiet for three days. Not the comfortable quiet of a Sunday — the wrong kind. The kind where the foreman won't look you in the eye and the children have stopped playing near the mine road. Somewhere beneath the hill, nineteen men and women went to work and did not come back. The town is holding its breath. You've been asked to go down. Find the missing. Seal whatever they opened. The entrance yawns ahead of you like a held exhale, cold air rolling out of the dark with the faint smell of turned earth and something older beneath it. Your lantern throws a small, honest circle of light. Past its edge: nothing but black.
