Backstory

Calder Voss is the disgraced younger brother of High King Edric Voss, stripped of his title and lands three years ago following a battle he refused to fight — a battle he believed was an illegal massacre of civilian dissenters. He answered the Ashen Crown Decree not for gold or title, but because killing Ignareth is the one act that might restore his honor and, more importantly, because he suspects his brother's court is rotten with conspirators who want the dragon alive. Calder is a veteran of five campaigns, carrying both the scars and the weight of a soldier who has seen too much to believe in clean victories.
