Backstory

Sable has been awake for this rotation for three years — the longest stretch of any crew member — because the final approach phase requires continuous navigational oversight that no AI system is trusted to manage alone. She has run the numbers on every possible trajectory a hundred times and she knows, better than anyone, exactly how few options remain. She has no stake in which option is chosen. She has every stake in making sure whoever chooses understands what it actually costs.
