Chains of Gold and Fire

A princess taken. A king who wants her back. The truth will burn them both.

About this adventure

Princess Seraphine has vanished into the volcanic stronghold of the Ashkin Dragonborn, and King Aldric wants her returned before the world learns why she was taken. But the closer you look at this rescue, the more it resembles something else entirely — a reckoning three generations in the making, and a kingdom that cannot heal until its ugliest secrets are dragged into the light. Play as Riven Ashcroft, a principled swordsman haunted by the envoys he couldn't save; Thessaly Vorne, an information broker who has been circling this moment for eight years; or Borak Stonehand, a grizzled mercenary carrying a debt he can't name and a conscience he can't silence.

Prologue

The kingdom of Valdenmoor gleams like a lie told in marble and gold. Its towers catch the morning light beautifully. Its people go hungry in the shadow of them. For three generations, the crown has taken — land from the Ashkin clans beyond the Ashenridge Mountains, grain from borderland villages, justice from anyone who dared ask for it. The disappeared are not spoken of. The ledgers are sealed. The king calls this stability, and his court has learned not to disagree. Now the Ashkin have answered. Princess Seraphine was carried from her tower chamber in the dead of night, and Warlord Draak Vorreth has sent one message in return: the princess will be returned when the king answers for what he has done. King Aldric the Unyielding has responded the only way he knows how — not with negotiation, but with a summons nailed to every gate and tavern board in the realm. Bring her back. Name your price. But the road to Embrath passes through the truth, and the truth has been waiting a long time for someone brave enough — or desperate enough — to carry it home.
